مَضىpassed away يوسُفُYusuf الإِحسانِbenevolence وَالخَيرِand goodness وَالتُقىand piety
فَيالَيتَso, would that أَنّيthat I قَدindeed مَضَيتُI had gone إِلَيهِto him
Yusuf of benevolence, goodness, and piety has passed away.
Joseph, the good and the pious, has passed away
So, would that I had gone to him!
Would that I had passed away with him
وَخَلَّفَهاand he left them behind آثارَtraces صِدقٍsincerity كَريمَةٍnoble
بَقينَthey remained عَلَيناupon us بَلrather بَقينَthey remained عَلَيهِupon him
And he left them behind as noble traces of sincerity,
He left behind him traces of truth and nobility
Which remain with us—nay, remain with him.
That remain with us, nay rather, remain with him
وَقَرَّتand found joy بِهِin him عَينايَmy two eyes دَهراًfor a long time فَحَقُّهُso it is his due
إِذاًthen; therefore أَصبَحَتhave become عَينايَmy two eyes باكِيَتَيهِboth weeping for him
My eyes long found joy in him; so it is his due
My eyes were delighted with him for a lifetime, so he deserves
That my eyes should now weep for him.
For my eyes to weep for him now that he is gone
