زارَتshe visited فَزارَكَso it visited you فيin الظَلامِthe darkness ضِياءُradiance

She came to visit, and radiance visited you in the darkness.
Your radiance visited me in the darkness
The watchers were dazzled by it, unable to glimpse us.
Enveloping us from the spies’ glances
لَمdid not تَبدُappear شَمسُthe sun الصُبحِof morning فيin جُنحِthe cover الدُجىof night
إِلّاexcept لِأَمرٍfor a purpose تَحتَهُbeneath it أَنباءُtidings
The morning sun did not appear under the cover of night
The dawn sun did not appear on the wings of night
Except for a purpose beneath which lie tidings.
Except for something beneath it there were tidings
مِنfrom ثَغرِهِhis mouth وَحُلِيِّهِand his jewels وَنَسيمِهِand his fragrance
ماthat which لاnot تَقومُis able بِكَتمِهِto conceal it الظَلماءُthe darkness
From his mouth, his jewels, and his fragrance
From his mouth, his smile, and his breeze
Comes what the darkness cannot conceal.
What the shadows cannot conceal
وَمَتىand when يَفوزُwins بِماwith what تَمَنّىhe wished for عاشِقٌa lover
وَجَميعُand all ماthat يَهوىhe loves لَهُto him أَعداءُenemies
And when can a lover attain what he has wished for,
And when can a lover attain what he desires
While all that he loves are enemies to him?
While all his wishes have enemies
لَكَfor you مِنfrom نَسيبيmy love-poetry فيكَabout you رَوضٌa garden يانِعٌflourishing
يَجريflows عَلَيهِover it مِنfrom دُموعيmy tears الماءُthe water
From my love-poetry about you, a flourishing garden is yours,
For you, my kinsman, in you is a fertile garden
Over which flows the water of my tears.
Watered by the tears flowing from me
رَتَعَتgrazed جُفونيmy eyelids مِنfrom سَناكَyour radiance بِجَنَّةٍin a paradise
فَتَبَوَّأَتso they settled مِنهُwithin it بِحَيثُwherever تَشاءُthey wish
My eyelids grazed in a paradise of your radiance,
My eyelids grazed from your kiss a paradise
So they settled within it wherever they wished.
And settled wherever it wished
