ياO مَنthe one who سَفَكتُI shed دِمائيmy blood فيin الدُموعِthe tears لَهُfor him
يا مَن سَفَكتُ دِمائي في الدُموعِ لَهُ
وَالنَفسُand the soul فيamid زَفَراتٍsighs قَيَّدَتfettered نَفسيmy breath
وَالنَفسُ في زَفَراتٍ قَيَّدَت نَفسي
O you for whom I shed my blood in tears,
O you for whom I shed my blood in tears
And my soul is amid sighs that have fettered my breath.
While my soul in sighs has chained my soul
عاهَدتُمُyou made a covenant وَتَناسَيتُمand you feigned forgetting عُهودَكُمُyour vows
عاهَدتُمُ وَتَناسَيتُم عُهودَكُمُ
فَاللَهُfor God عاهَدَmade a covenant with قِدماًlong ago آدَماًAdam فَنَسيand he forgot
فَاللَهُ عاهَدَ قِدماً آدَماً فَنَسي
You made a covenant and feigned forgetting your vows;
You pledged and forgot your pledges
For God made a covenant with Adam long ago, and he forgot.
So God pledged Adam as He created him but he forgot
لَشَدَّindeed, how greatly ماexclamatory particle قَدindeed صَدَفتُمyou turned away بَعدَafter وَصلِكُمُyour union
لَشَدَّ ما قَد صَدَفتُم بَعدَ وَصلِكُمُ
ياO قُربَnearness مَأتَمِهِمtheir mourning gathering ياليalas for me مِنَbecause of العُرُسِthe wedding
يا قُربَ مَأتَمِهِم يالي مِنَ العُرُسِ
How greatly you have turned away after your union!
How extremely you turned away after your connection
Oh, how near their mourning is! Alas for me because of the wedding!
O close ones, what a funeral compared to the wedding
