    Who will remind the master, who pretends to have forgotten his slave?

    I have a promise from him, and my heart is with him.

    What a true bond I have in my loyalty to you—

    no doubt has ever arisen to undo its knot.

    So he holds a captive heart of mine; I have wanted nothing

    but his kindness to it, so that I may bring it back.

    وَكَفى بِها أَن قَد تَضَمَّنَ وُدَّهُ

    A heart—the noblest means I have of approaching him;

    and it is enough that it harbors love for him.

    Do not open the door of reproach, for I

    fear for it, lest it make its roses bloom.
