عَذَلواthey reproached وَلَولاand were it not for الحُبُّlove ماnot عَذَلواthey reproached
عَذَلوا وَلَولا الحُبُّ ما عَذَلوا
ياO لَيتَwould that ماnot نَصَرواthey supported وَلاand not خَذَلواthey forsook
يا لَيتَ ما نَصَروا وَلا خَذَلوا
They reproached me; were it not for love, they would not have reproached me.
They blamed though love, if not for love, they'd not blame
Would that they had neither supported nor forsaken me!
Would that they'd not supported nor abandoned
لاnot لُمتُهُمI blamed them فيfor لَومِهِمtheir reproach فَهُمُfor they
لا لُمتُهُم في لَومِهِم فَهُمُ
أَحبابُناour loved ones وَعداةُand enemies of ماwhat جَهِلواthey did not know
أَحبابُنا وَعداةُ ما جَهِلوا
I do not blame them for their reproach, for they are
Blame them not for their blame, they are
our loved ones, and enemies of what they do not know.
Our loved ones, though ignorant made enemies
دَخَلواthey entered إِلىinto سَمعيmy hearing وَأخبرُكُمُand I tell you
دَخَلوا إِلى سَمعي وَأخبرُكُمُ
أَنَّthat الفُؤادَthe heart إِلَيهِinto it ماnot دَخَلواthey entered
أَنَّ الفُؤادَ إِلَيهِ ما دَخَلوا
They entered my hearing, and I tell you
They entered my hearing and I tell you
that they did not enter my heart.
The heart, they did not enter into
وَقَدand indeed اِدَّعَيتُI claimed قَبولَacceptance of قَولِهِمُtheir words
وَقَد اِدَّعَيتُ قَبولَ قَولِهِمُ
وَقَدand indeed اِستَرابواthey grew suspicious بيof me وَماand ... not قَبِلواthey accepted
وَقَد اِستَرابوا بي وَما قَبِلوا
And I claimed to accept their words,
And I claimed accepting their words
yet they mistrusted me and did not accept it.
Yet they doubted me, and did not accept
لاdo not تَسمَعواyou listen to عَذلاًreproach فَماfor ... not قَبِلواthey accepted
لا تَسمَعوا عَذلاً فَما قَبِلوا
مِنّاfrom us فَقَدfor indeed عَذَلواthey reproached وَماand ... not عَدَلواthey were just
مِنّا فَقَد عَذَلوا وَما عَدَلوا
Do not heed reproach, for they accepted nothing
Hear no blame, for they did not accept
from us; they reproached us and were not just.
From us, though they blamed and were not just
وَلَقَدand indeed تَعاطَواthey tried بِالمَلامَةِthrough reproach كَيin order to
وَلَقَد تَعاطَوا بِالمَلامَةِ كَي
يَصِلواthey might reach مَكانَكُمُyour place فَماbut ... not وَصَلواthey reached
يَصِلوا مَكانَكُمُ فَما وَصَلوا
And indeed they tried, through reproach, to
And they undertook with blame so that
reach your place, but they did not reach it.
They'd reach your place, but did not reach
ذاكَthat المَكانُplace حِمىًa sanctuary لَكُمfor you وَبِكُمand by you
ذاكَ المَكانُ حِمىً لَكُم وَبِكُم
لاneither الخَمرُwine تَبلِغُهُreaches it وَلاnor الأَمَلُhope
لا الخَمرُ تَبلِغُهُ وَلا الأَمَلُ
That place is a sanctuary for you, guarded by you;
That place is a protected realm for you, and by you
neither wine nor hope can reach it.
Not wine reaches it, nor hope
فَلَوso if اِبنُthe son of نوحٍNoah كانَwere مَوضِعَكُمin your place
فَلَو اِبنُ نوحٍ كانَ مَوضِعَكُم
لَحَماهُit would have protected him ماas لَمdid not يَحمِهِprotect him الجَبَلُthe mountain
لَحَماهُ ما لَم يَحمِهِ الجَبَلُ
So, had Noah's son been in your place,
If Noah's son took your place
it would have protected him as the mountain did not.
What the mountain didn't protect, it'd protect
الريحَthe wind أُرسِلُI send فيin البِعادِseparation فَإِنand if
الريحَ أُرسِلُ في البِعادِ فَإِن
تَدنواyou draw near فَمِنthen from أَنفاسِناour breaths الرُسُلُthe messengers
تَدنوا فَمِن أَنفاسِنا الرُسُلُ
I send the wind when we are apart; and if
I send the wind into the far off lands, and if
you draw near, then our messengers come from our breaths.
They come near, from our breaths are the messengers
