قَدindeed ذَكَرناwe recalled عُهودَكُمyour pledges بَعدَafter ماthat طاgrew long (first fragment of طالت)
قَد ذَكَرنا عُهودَكُم بَعدَ ما طا
لَتgrew long (final fragment of طالت) لَيالٍnights مِنfrom بَعدِهاafter them وَشُهورُand months
لَت لَيالٍ مِن بَعدِها وَشُهورُ
We have recalled your pledges, after
We recalled your days after long nights had passed
nights and months had stretched on since them.
And months thereafter
عَجَباًhow astonishing! لِلقُلوبِat the hearts كَيفَhow أَطالَتthey prolonged
عَجَباً لِلقُلوبِ كَيفَ أَطالَت
بُعدَكُمyour absence ماnot القُلوبُthe hearts إِلّاbut صُخورُrocks
بُعدَكُم ما القُلوبُ إِلّا صُخورُ
How strange these hearts—how they have prolonged
It is amazing how hearts have endured
your absence! Hearts are nothing but rocks.
