وَقالوا قُصَّها عَن رَأيِ عَينٍ

فَقُلتُ فَإِنَّها في عَينِ فِكري

They said: Tell the tale from sight's opinion.

I said: It is in the eye of my mind.

أَرى شَيبي مُعاراً فيهِ بَعضي

لِبَعضٍ إِنَّ ذاكَ لِنَشرِ سِرِّ

I see my grey hair accused in it somewhat

By another: that spreading of a secret.

فَلا تُنكِر لَهُ تَعبيسَ وَجهي

فَقَد أَعطى تَبَسُّمَهُ لِشَعري

So do not deny him my face's frowning -

His smiling he gave to my poetry.
