فَإِنَّ أَعدى عَدُوٍّ عِندَنا الهَرَبُ
Indeed, yours is the pursuit of your enemies;
You seek vengeance against your enemies,
for to us the deadliest enemy is flight.
For fleeing is the hallmark of a base foe.

You are life, beyond which nothing remains to desire,
You are the life beyond which we aspire no more,
or death, before which nothing remains to fear.
Or the dove unmatched before or since.

Their boats cannot protect them on the sea,
and whatever journeys they make on earth cannot save them.
Nor fortresses shield them on dry land.

Neither saddles nor quivers avail them,
and neither house nor tent-ropes can shelter them.
Neither homes nor brushwood give them cover.

Their armor is merely where they meet their death;
Their armor is no match for our warriors.
they have indeed been struck by God's swords.
With Allah’s swords they’ve been cut down.

Let doubters know obedience to you
has nowhere to move in God's lands.
Allows no wavering on Allah’s earth.

Had the storm clouds of discord gathered for you,
the shooting stars would battle them until they dispersed.
Your glory would scatter them, revealing dawn’s light.

When asked if our foes had risen, I said “Yes!
as moths leap into their flames.'
As moths fly into flames, to their doom.”

Let people not marvel when they kindle strife:
That rebels lit the fires of strife is no surprise.
rebellion is fire, and its kindler is its firewood.
Rebellion itself supplies the rebel’s fuel.

A cup of rebellion plunders minds;
A cup of rebellion steals reason from the wise,
so too does the drinking-cup rob minds.
Just as the cup addles the mind when sipped.

No wonder your army acted decisively
with the blade's edge the penalty for that cup they drank.
Against those who drank of that forbidden draft.

Great speeches denounce their transgressions,
you discharged the duties owed to God.
Though words cannot convey the depth of their crimes.

For those whose necks disdain the collar,
collars and rods no longer serve among the people.
Your swords stand ready to convince them otherwise!

Are decorated with pearls along their hilts.

Sun of my time! My hopes in you will never fade,
does not snap like the sun's rays.
Unlike hopes placed in the inconstant stars.

Tell the one who brings the stars' alarming rumors:
Tell the star-gazer no eclipse dims your light;
this sun is not one that a comet's tail can eclipse.
Your constellation stands fixed, ever bright!

while the sign of its wealth turns toward generosity.

Until you’ve severed heads of the treasonous,
just as you advanced with an army that has no clamor,
Whose bloodless bodies no longer have need of helms.

Turbans of red brocade mark your loyal ranks.
and won the plunder of souls that had no spoils.
Their sashes trail, capturing your enemies’ eyes.

Your loyal warriors press themselves onto you,
Sleep: the nights take turns on your behalf.
As pearls might cluster and cling to a prized necklace.

They are helpless before fate, and helpless before death.
just as the homes of whoever disobeys you are graves.
Helpless on land, helpless on sea, helpless in storm’s gust.

Speak freely of their actions, conceal nothing,
it will not neglect rights founded upon kinship.
Their defeat, when defeated, is no cause for wonder.

You’ve assumed the highest ranks, while others
and neither toil nor weariness touched you.
Envy you those stations, eying them with doubt.

today no deed of its remains surprising.
But you’ve made those ranks sublime by your grace.

their cantering and trotting hasten their doom.
All words fall short before your shining glory.

Days and books both fail to fully capture
as though the blows held honey within them.
The greatness of what you’ve achieved, my lord.

today the Arabs have submitted in their wake.
As grassy plains attest to the rain clouds’ blessings.

Fearful awe preserves your image within me.
with this lion-like ferocity until they grew rabid.
Anger is fire, yet in you no blaze is found.

Your righteous spirit remains our guide,
but blades grow pliant when you unsheathe them.
Known to us, while only Allah knows what is hidden.

You obtained merits no books can contain!
yes, even the wood of its enemies bears fruit.
I seek Allah’s forgiveness - no books contain.

You perfect one, Allah made perfection your name,
those people rose only when they were crucified.
Though others only know you by title and acclaim.

Each day is a preacher upon its pulpit,
Light of your pious aura shields you from our eyes,
and calamity makes heard what sermons cannot.
While we remain veiled, for none approach your grandeur.

You’ve surpassed all in merit; no eulogy suffices.
even a portion of this slaughter steals lifetimes.
Days and books fall short of your many victories.

they perish, and bands perish in their wake.
If you but order me to triumph, victory is assured!

With you I want no wealth or weapons -
calamities themselves are among your glory's supporters.
For you are my wealth, you are my weapon!

Let them not suppose kingship something you acquire yourself:
Had you been revealed in heaven, not earth below,
kingship is acquired by God's command.
I would have said: “I am the neighbor above you!”

The pearl he offers cannot match your brilliance!

A maiden’s silence when courted stirs no surprise;
despite them, no desire for any but its rightful lords.
To speak in rhyme before being wed is not her custom.

the slender Khatti spears stretch their strides toward it.
She takes back the words I robbed from her heart.

they showed that its staff, with them, is splinters.
To harvest such glory, or pluck such fruits.

Punishment, when it comes
from them, has causes; their gifts have none.

like wind when they ride, like lightning when they leap.

Tell of them through their deeds, without restraint:
no one marvels at conquest when they conquer.

I do not say you have reached beyond their utmost height:
this is the beginning; the ends are still awaited.

Sleep: Fortune's eyes guard you.
How could a father not guard a son against his enemies?

nab‘ wood shatters under the willow's blows.

Egypt is nothing but a bride in your time,
unveiled, with domed pavilions fashioned from her pyramids.

contains the swords dyed at that wedding.

other lands are infected, as experience has shown with mange.

With a leap that overtakes enemies at leisure,
as though earnestness in its deeds were play.

from their cheerfulness that they were given the wealth they gave.

Were it not for their accustomed victories, I would think
from their contempt for enemies that they had been defeated.

The clouds' mouth kisses the earth in their presence;
rain is its saliva, and the stars its gleaming teeth.

Generous deeds—since their swelling tide overflowed the earth,
the clouds have stopped raining over foes, fearing those deeds.

Lightning flashes on the clouds' cheeks in shame,
and thunder's voice along their edges is clamor.

They fall short of lofty forbearance and generosity;
so call them not clouds, but wells.

Clouds are not those whose rain is drops of water;
true clouds are those whose rain is gold.

God bless Shuja‘'s face! Its sign
shines like dawn; anger has not effaced it.

Rage is fire, but within his folds
it is clear, cool water, with no flame there.

God bless what he conceals from us and what he reveals
among us; for God's sake are all he does and shuns.

I have never seen two colors in his character;
whoever rouses suspicion offers no reason to seek his company.

O Kamil, through whom God has made perfection known:
it is his name, though they suppose it a title.

from us, though no such veils lie between us.

أَستَغفِرُ اللَهَ بَل لا حازَتِ الكُتُبُ
You have attained excellence that books have not encompassed;
I ask God's forgiveness—rather, may books never encompass it!

My appearance tells of your overflowing bounty,
as grass tells of abundant rain.

How much can thoughts dictate, even at full power,
and what is the utmost that days and books can make heard?

Saddlebags and ages praise you before I do.

I do not fear that the days will overcome me:
if you command my support, victory is mine.

I would say I was there your distant neighbor.

She is a virgin: if she remained silent an age, it is no wonder;
silence is a virgin's custom when sought in marriage.

She is delicate and pleasing to hearing and sight:
the jewelry is cast, the water poured.
