Sufficient punishment for the envier's offense is
The envious one is sufficiently punished by his envy,
the ember of envy within his limbs.
In his limbs there is no glow of envy,

No wonder if his body melts away with envy,
Do not be surprised if his body melts away out of envy,
for this malady weakens the body's health.
For this disease enfeebles the health of the body,

Were he not judged by the Creator, I say: surely
If he were not judged by the Creator, I would say
it would suffice him to have lived until he died of anguish.
He is sufficiently punished since he lived and died consumed,

The pleasure of every sin may be hoped for—
All sins may be hoped to give pleasure,
except envy—nay, this is a malady of the liver.
Alas, but this is the disease of the liver,

What will the ignorant, blindly envious person do to
envied man, if he gains eminence one day while the envier has not?
The envied one if he prevails one day and he has not blocked his way,

And they entirely perish, and none remain with anyone,

But the detestable envy accompanies
its bearer in the Fire for all eternity.
Its companion into the fire for eternity.
