A straight, unbroken stem among the boughs.

Joined to the white hue of my hair.

And she freely granted me a taste of her saliva,

Sweeter and cooler than water from the clouds.

When her face appears from behind a striped cloak.

Beside her glances, the sword grows dull in striking,

And the bough is shamed beside her swaying.

For her, and now have cast off the robe of fortitude.

While trusty war bears me evening and morning.

And how I have now stolen a draught from your sweetest spring?

Streaming with tears, dripping from their eyes like dew.

And had I not soothed them with mention of you, for fear

There of excessive weeping and sighing,

They would never have ceased to sadden those around them

With a mournful voice, recurring in their weeping.
