An ardent lover has, in love, much to expound and dictate;
A lovesick man has exposition and dictation on love,
and in his ways are inspiration and allusion.
And in its ways, inspiration and intimations.

He considers his reproachful friends

slender where the sash lies, full in the hips, with dusky lips.
Slim at the girdle, full in the haunches, dark-lipped.

Sipping from her mouth heals the wound her eye has made
in my heart: thus for me she is both cure and maladies.
In my heart's core; she is my cure and my ailments.

The departing litters stirred your longing for the encampment when you saw them off,
Departing camel-litters stirred your longing for the tribe as you saw them off,
as did a desolate campsite, like a tattoo upon a forearm.
And a desolate campsite, like a tattoo on the forearm.

one of the trace-effacing winds, after the tribe had gone.
A crosswind among the dust-blowing winds, after the tribe had gone.

And over it she thundered with a copious downpour of rain—
from rain-heavy clouds hanging low at eventide,
A dense cloud among the clouds at evening.
