Among us; earnestness has risen, and jest has sat down.

O my reproacher, fortitude has ebbed and withdrawn,
And no bond remains between me and it.

And who is there for me, even if I find solace, when a calamity has struck
After which I know for certain I shall never find solace?

So secrets appeared to me, and ignorance was dispelled.

The nights will pass, and each will surely be made to taste his death:
Their growing youth, the middle-aged, the elder, and the child.

And every person must face a fatal stroke through which
His brethren, his wealth, and his family part from him.

And whose habit among its people are slaughter and ruin.

For never once has a company gathered there
Among its people, without that company being scattered there.

News came whose tongue was nearly torn out
By the firmly rooted mountains—or at which the plain would reel.
