You forbid love, o deterrer, and order intimacy

Go ahead, o deterring commander

Ah, longing is of no benefit
'Ah!'—even if the yearning lover multiplies his sighs.
Ah, though the ardent one sighs more

Impossible, impossible, that I should forget my love for a moon
Alas, alas that I should forget the love of a moon-like face
through whom the face of time is joyful and radiant.
The time has smiled upon it, deterring

A nasal-voiced, dark-lipped one—my heart, in love for him,
My heart sings the glory of his love
is like a morsel that has been melted in the cook's blaze.
Like a chewed morsel melted in flaming wind

How much sweet saliva I have tasted from it, sipping
something whose flavor I have never found in the saliva of other mouths!
Whose taste I did not find in the saliva of mouths

And a dreary, deserted valley I crossed furtively
on a reddish-white, full-grown camel, swift on the march.
With a swift she-camel, wandering in travel and love

It walked on, and before it the best camels of Humayr, since
with him, the pillar of success has never been feeble.
The pillar of success was not with it, distracted

A learned man, he speaks what pleases God, and never will
An ink that speaks what pleases God, and you will
you see him pouring out foul speech in the assembly.
Not see it avoiding the companions in their gatherings

In glory, too great for Abode and for King
