O herald of hopes, is it a dream of youth

That passed by the river, or a new love?

Or did the prophets sing upon the green bank,

Or was a feast held for the angels?

A festival, in which the kingdoms of the East

    Are prayers, joy, and song,

And a cry whose echo rings on both banks,

Which the noble kings whisper to one another:

Be safe, O Princess of the East, and reign,

O King of the East, as long as eternity wills.

The day Faryal called you by your sweet name,

    “My father!”—happy time rejoiced.

Long may you live, your fair days youthful,

    And all your nights auspicious.
