O poets of the garden, where is eloquence?

Where are the songs of love and tenderness?

A flower has been born in your garden.

Oh, how lovely she is among the lovely flowers!

The dream of butterflies, and the love of dew,

And the wine of bees, and the enchantment of the season.

A messenger brought the earth glad tidings of her,

Winged, from the breezes of the gardens.

And light is a secret in the heart of darkness,

And dawn a phantom not yet visible to the eye.

I saw her fluttering on her branch

In the loneliness of night and the silence of the place.

White or red, she lends splendor to

The brides of narcissi and chrysanthemums.

She keeps listening, and the hills do too,

And the grass, the brook, and the two banks.

Yet there is no one among you calling around her

Whose music pours forth the magic of eloquence.

Has wine grown weary of your goblets?

Or have the jars run dry of their wine?

Rise, look at the shade upon her cradle:

The radiant moon dances in it.

If the breezes could, they would bring to her in bridal procession

The springtimes of Paradise in a festival,

And make heard, through the flutter of their breaths,

The voices of herald-maidens and the song of singing slave-girls.

O poets of the garden, many are the flowers

Whose birth counts among time's good deeds!

All I need of this world, to the sound of your singing,

Is flowers, wine, and beautiful faces.
