إِلَيكَto you أَشكوI complain عُجَريmy troubles وَبُجَريand my sorrows
إِلَيكَ أَشكو عُجَري وَبُجَري
وَمَعشَراًand a people غَشّواthey clouded عَلَيَّupon me بَصَريmy sight
وَمَعشَراً غَشّوا عَلَيَّ بَصَري
To you I complain of my troubles and my sorrows.
To you I complain of my hardship and distress
To you I complain of my knotted sorrows and hidden cares,
And of a people who clouded my sight.
And a people who have deceived my sight
And of a kinsfolk who have cast a veil over my vision;
إِنّيindeed I قَتَلتُI slew مُضَريmy Mudar kin بِمُضَريwith my Mudar kin
إِنّي قَتَلتُ مُضَري بِمُضَري
شَفَيتُI healed نَفسيmy soul وَقَتَلتُand I slew مَعشَريmy people
شَفَيتُ نَفسي وَقَتَلتُ مَعشَري
Indeed, I slew my Mudar kin with my Mudar kin.
Verily I killed Mudar with my Mudar
Indeed, I have slain my Mudar with my Mudar,
I healed my soul and slew my own people.
I healed myself and killed my people
I have healed my soul, yet I have destroyed my own people.
