لَعَلَ اللَهُ يُمكِن مَن قَفاكا
So, will you face Abu Hasan Ali?
O my father Hasan, O Ali
Do you dare to face Abu Hasan, Ali?
Perhaps God will put the back of your neck within his reach.
Perhaps God will enable the one whose footsteps you follow
Perhaps God will empower the one who pursues you.
دَعاكَhe called you إِلىto البِرازِsingle combat فَكَفتbut you held back عَنهُfrom him

وَلَوand had بارَزتَهُyou fought him in single combat تَرِبَتwould have become dusty يَداكاyour two hands
وَلَو بارَزتَهُ تَرِبَت يَداكا
He called you to single combat, but you held back from him.
You invited him to the battlefield, yet he held back
He called you to the duel, yet you held back from him,
And had you fought him, your hands would have been covered in dust.
Had you confronted him, your hands would have been sullied
And had you dueled him, your hands would have grasped the dust.
