اللَيلُnight هَولٌa terror يُرهِبُfrightens المُهِيباthe fearsome
وَيُذهِلُand bewilders المُشَجِّعَthe one who emboldens اللَبيباthe discerning
Night is a terror that frightens the fearsome,
The night is fearsome, frightening the frightening one
The night is a horror that terrifies the formidable,
And bewilders the wise man who emboldens others.
And astonishing the wise encourager
And bewilders the courageous man of keen wit;
فَإِنَّنيfor indeed I أَهولُam more fearsome مِنهُthan it ذِئباًas a wolf
وَلَستُand I do not أَخشىfear الرَوعَterror وَالخُطُوباand calamities
For I, a wolf, am more fearsome than it,
Yet I am more fearsome than it, a wolf
For I am more dreadful than the night, a wolf,
And I do not fear terror or calamities.
And I do not fear commotion and perils
And I fear neither panic nor grave calamities.
إِذاwhen هَزَزتَyou brandished الصارِمَthe sharp sword القَضيباthe keen-edged
أَبصَرتُI beheld مِنهُfrom it عَجَباًa marvel عَجيباwondrous
When you brandish the sharp, keen-edged sword,
When you brandish the rigid sword
When I brandish the sharp, unyielding blade,
I behold in it a wondrous marvel.
I see from it a wondrous wonder
I behold from it a wondrous marvel.
