تَغَرَبتُI went abroad أَسَأَلُI ask مَنwhoever عَنَّappeared ليto me
تَغَرَبتُ أَسَأَلُ مَن عَنَّ لي
مِنَamong الناسِthe people هَلis there مِنany صَديقِfriend صَدوقِfaithful
مِنَ الناسِ هَل مِن صَديقِ صَدوقِ
I went abroad, asking whoever crossed my path
I'm a stranger, I ask whoever knows me,
I wandered as a stranger, asking whoever crossed my path,
Among the people, 'Is there a faithful friend?'
Among the people, is there a true friend?
Among the people: "Is there a truly loyal friend?"
فَقالواso they said عَزيزانِtwo rare things لاnot يُوجَدانِare found (both)
فَقالوا عَزيزانِ لا يُوجَدانِ
صَديقٌa friend صَدوقfaithful وَبيضُand the eggs الأنوقِthe vulture
صَديقٌ صَدوق وَبيضُ الأنوقِ
They said, 'Two rare things cannot be found:
They said, precious one, they cannot be found,
They replied: "Two rare things are not to be found:
A faithful friend and the vulture's eggs.'
A true, loyal friend and purest of men.
A truly loyal friend, and the eggs of the Anuq."
