أَغمِّضُ عَيني في أُمورٍ كَثيرَةٍ

أَغمِّضُ عَيني في أُمورٍ كَثيرَةٍ

وَإِنّي عَلى تَركِ الغُموضِ قَديرُ

وَإِنّي عَلى تَركِ الغُموضِ قَديرُ

I close my eyes to many things,

I close my eyes to many matters

I close my eyes to many matters,

though I am quite able to stop looking away.

And I'm able to avoid ambiguity

Though I am fully capable of casting off this veil.

وَما مِن عَمى أُغضي وَلَكِن لَرُبَما

وَما مِن عَمى أُغضي وَلَكِن لَرُبَما

تَغامى وَأَغضى المَرءُ وَهُوَ بَصيرُ

تَغامى وَأَغضى المَرءُ وَهُوَ بَصيرُ

It is not from blindness that I lower my gaze, but sometimes

It's not blindness that makes me close them

It is not out of blindness that I look away, but perchance

a person feigns unawareness and looks away, though he sees clearly.

But a person may pretend not to see though they do

A man may feign blindness and overlook, though he sees clearly.

وَأَسكُتُ عَن أَشياءَ لَو شِئتُ قُلتُها

وَأَسكُتُ عَن أَشياءَ لَو شِئتُ قُلتُها

وَلَيسَ عَلَينا في المَقالِ أَميرُ

وَلَيسَ عَلَينا في المَقالِ أَميرُ

And I keep silent about things I would say if I wished,

I'm silent about things I could say

And I remain silent about things I could speak of if I chose,

and no ruler has authority over us in speech.

When it comes to speech, none can command me

For there is no ruler over us to dictate our speech.

أَصبِّرُ نَفسي بِاِجتِهادي وَطاقَتي

أَصبِّرُ نَفسي بِاِجتِهادي وَطاقَتي

وَإِنّي بِأَخلاقِ الجَميعِ خَبيرُ

وَإِنّي بِأَخلاقِ الجَميعِ خَبيرُ

I train myself in patience through my effort and strength,

I restrain myself as best I can

I compel my soul to patience with all my effort and resolve,

and indeed I know everyone's character well.

And I'm familiar with everyone's morals

For I am well-versed in the true nature of all people.
