فَلَيسَso not يَشركهُshares with Him فيin مُلكِهِHis dominion أَحَدُanyone
God is living, eternal, all-powerful, self-sufficient.
God is alive, eternal, able, self-sufficient
Allah is the Living, the Ancient, the All-Powerful, the Eternal Refuge,
No one, then, shares in His dominion.
None shares with Him in His kingdom anyone
And there is no one who shares in His dominion.
هُوَHe الَّذيwho عَرَّفَmade known الكُفّارَthe unbelievers مَنزِلَهُمtheir abode
وَالمُؤمِنونَand the believers سيَجزيهِمHe will reward them بِماwith what وُعِدواthey were promised
He is the One who made the unbelievers know their abode,
He who made the infidels know their abode
It is He who has made known to the disbelievers their station,
And the believers—He will reward them with what they were promised.
And the believers, for what they were promised, He will reward
And the believers He shall reward with what they were promised.
فَإِنso if تَكُنit be دِولَةًa turn of fortune كاَنَتit was لَناfor us عِظَةٌa lesson
فَهَلso, is it? عَسىperhaps أَنthat يَرىone sees فيهاin it غَيرَother than رَشَدُright guidance
If this is a turn of fortune, it has been a lesson for us;
If it was a state, it was to us a lesson
So if this turn of fortune occurred, it was a lesson for us,
So could one see in it anything but right guidance?
Will he see in it other than righteousness?
And could one hope to see in it anything other than guidance?
وَيَنصُرِand aids اللَهُGod مَنwhoever والاهُis loyal to Him إِنَّindeed لَهُfor him
نَصراًa victory يُمَثِّلُinflicts mutilation بِالكُفّارِon the unbelievers إِنif عَتَدواthey transgress
And God aids whoever is loyal to Him; indeed, for him there is
And God helps whom He befriends, he has
For Allah grants victory to those who are loyal to Him; indeed, He holds
A victory that mutilates the unbelievers if they transgress.
Help over the infidels if they transgress
A triumph that makes an example of the disbelievers whenever they transgress.
فَإِنso if نَطَقتُمyou speak بِفَخرٍwith pride لاno أَبالَكُمُfather for you
فيمَنabout those whom تَضَمَّنَenfolded مِنof إِخوانِناour brothers اللَحَدُthe grave
If you boast—may you have no father—
And if you spoke with pride, I do not care
So if you speak with boasting—woe unto you!—
About those of our brothers whom the grave has enfolded,
In whom of our brethren the grave includes
Regarding those of our brothers whom the grave now holds:
فَإِنَّfor indeed طَلحَةَTalha غَادَرناهُwe left him مُنجَدِلاًlying fallen
وَلِلصَفائِحِand for the broad blades نارٌa fire بَينَناbetween us تَقِدُblazes
Then Talha—we left him lying slain,
For Talha we left him, betraying
Then know that we left Talhah lying prostrate on the ground,
And the sword blades' fire blazes between us.
And for the defiled, between us a fire burns
While the fire of broadswords blazed between us.
وَالمَرءُand the man عُثمانُUthman أَردَتهُfelled him أَسِنَّتُناour spearheads

And the man Uthman—our spearheads felled him;
And the man, Uthman, our tongues wanted
And the man ‘Uthman, our spearheads struck him down,
So the bosom of his wife's garment was in shreds when she was told.
So the chest of his wife when she was informed laments
So that his wife’s garment was torn in grief when she was told.

Among nine, with a banner in their midst,
In the nine and the banner amongst them
He fell among nine men who held the banner in their midst,
They did not shrink from death's pools when they came to drink.
They did not recoil from the basin of death when they came
Who did not shrink from the watering-troughs of death when they arrived.

They were Fihr's forelocks, the noblest of its people,
They were the remains of valor and the most generous of them
They were the very crest of Fihr and the noblest among them,
Where proud noses were, and where the lofty branch and the multitude stood.
Where the noses and where the origins and number
Where pride resides, along with lineage and multitude.

And Ahmad the good swiftly laid low
And Ahmed the best was killed hastily
And Ahmad, the Best of Creation, quickly brought down
Ubayy beneath the dust-cloud, while he strove mightily.
Under the hooves, a father while striving
Ubayy beneath the dust of battle, as he strove in attack.
فَظَلَّتِso continued الطَيرُthe birds وَالضِبعانُand the male hyena تَركَبُهُclambering over him

Then the birds and the male hyena kept clambering over him,
So the birds and hyenas rode him
So the birds and hyenas remained to feed upon him,
One carrying a piece of him, another sitting astride him.
A carrier of a piece of him and a harvester
One carrying off a piece of him, while another sat to feast.

And those you killed, astonishing though it was,
And whoever you killed, of wonder it was
And regarding those of us you killed—despite the wonder of the event—
From among us—they have indeed found good and attained bliss.
Of us, they met good and were fortunate
They have met with goodness and have attained felicity.

They have pleasant gardens of Paradise,
For them are gardens of Paradise, wholesome
For them are the pleasant gardens of Paradise,
Where neither heat nor bitter cold assails them.
No heat or cold afflicts them therein
Where neither scorching heat nor biting cold afflicts them.

May God bless them whenever they are remembered,
God prays upon them whenever they are mentioned
May God send His blessings upon them whenever they are mentioned,
For many a scene of true valor they had witnessed before it.
For many a true witnessing preceded they witnessed
For many a scene of truth they had witnessed before this.

A people who kept the Messenger's covenant and sought God's reward,
A people who kept the pact of the Messenger and sacrificed
A people who fulfilled their covenant with the Messenger and sought God’s reward,
Lofty-nosed men—among them Hamza the lion.
The smell of musk from them Hamza the lion sensed
Noble and proud—among them was Hamza, the Lion,

And Mus'ab was a lion, enraged in his defense,
And Mus`ab who was before him a staunch lion
And Mus‘ab, who was a lion fighting with fierce determination,
Until a bloodstained spear-tip cloaked itself in his flesh.
Until a fox took possession of his body
Until the spear-point found its sheath within his body.

They are not like the slain among the unbelievers, brought
They are not like the slain of the infidels He admitted
They are not like the slain of the disbelievers, whom God has cast
Into Hell's fire by the sentinels at its gates.
To the hellfire, at its doors the guards
Into the fire of Hell, with guards standing watch at its gates.
