رَأَيتُ العَقلَ عَقلَينِ

فَمَطبوعٌ وَمَسموعُ

I saw the mind has two forms

I have found the intellect to be of two kinds:

One imprinted and one heard

The one innate, and the other heard.

وَلا يَنفَع مَسموعٌ

إِذا لَم يَكُ مَطبوعُ

What's heard is of no use

And the heard one is of no profit

If what's imprinted hasn't occurred

If the innate one is not to be found;

كَما لا تَنفَعُ الشَمسَ

وَضوءُ العَينِ مَمنوعُ

Just as the sun's no use at all

Just as the sun serves no purpose

If the eye's light is blurred

When the light of the eye is denied.
