لاDo not تَكرَهِhate المَكروهَmisfortune عِندَat نُزولِهِits arrival
لا تَكرَهِ المَكروهَ عِندَ نُزولِهِ
إِنَّIndeed المَكارِهَhardships لَمnot تَزَلcease to be مُتَبايِنَهvaried
إِنَّ المَكارِهَ لَم تَزَل مُتَبايِنَه
Do not resent misfortune when it befalls you.
Do not hate trials when they come upon you,
Do not detest a misfortune when it descends upon you,
Indeed, hardships have always been varied.
Trials have always come in different forms.
For truly, adversities have always been diverse in nature.
كَمHow many a نِعمَةٍblessing لَمnot تَستَقِلُّyou manage بِشُكرِهاto give due thanks for it
كَم نِعمَةٍ لَم تَستَقِلُّ بِشُكرِها
لِلّهِfrom God فيin طَيِّthe folds of المَكارِهِhardships كامِنَهhidden
لِلّهِ في طَيِّ المَكارِهِ كامِنَه
How many a blessing, for which you have not given due thanks,
How many blessings have you failed to thank God for,
How many a blessing, for which you could not offer sufficient thanks,
Lies hidden, a gift from God, within the folds of hardship.
That during times of trial, God has kept safe within.
Lies hidden by God within the folds of calamity.
