كَآسادِ غيلٍ وَأَشبالِ خيسٍ

غَداةَ الخَميسِ بِبِيضٍ صِقالِ

Like lions of the thicket and cubs of the lair,

On the morning of the great army, bearing polished white blades,

تَجيدُ الضِرابَ وَحزَّ الرِقابِ

أَمامَ العِقابِ غَداةَ النَزالِ

Skilled in the strike and the severing of necks,

Before the war-banner on the morning of combat,

تَكيدُ الكَذوبَ وَتُخري الهَيوبَ

وَتَروي الكَعوبَ دِماءُ الَقذالِ

They confound the liar and terrorize the coward,

And the blood of napes waters the knots of the spears.
