ياO لَهفَanguish of نفسيmy soul قُتِلَتwas slain رَبيعَهRabi‘ah
يا لَهفَ نفسي قُتِلَت رَبيعَه
رَبيعَةُRabi‘ah السامِعَةthe attentive المُطيعَهthe obedient
رَبيعَةُ السامِعَة المُطيعَه
Alas for my soul! Rabi‘ah has been slain—
Alas for my soul! Rabi'ah has been slain,
Rabi‘ah, the attentive, the obedient.
Rabi'ah, the heeding, the obedient,
قَدalready سَبَقَتنيpreceded me فيهُمُamong them الوَقيعَهthe slaughter
قَد سَبَقَتني فيهُمُ الوَقيعَه
دَعاcalled حَكيمٌHakim دَعوَةًa call سَميعَهheard
دَعا حَكيمٌ دَعوَةً سَميعَه
The slaughter among them had already preceded me.
The calamity concerning them outstripped me,
Hakim raised a call that was heard,
A wise one issued a summons that was heard,
مِنfrom غَيرِother than ما(emphatic particle) بُطْلٍfalsehood وَلاnor خَديعَهdeceit
مِن غَيرِ ما بُطْلٍ وَلا خَديعَه
حلّواthey attained بِهاthrough it المَنزِلَةَthe station الرَفيعَهthe lofty
حلّوا بِها المَنزِلَةَ الرَفيعَه
Without falsehood or deceit.
With neither falsehood nor deception,
Through it they attained the lofty station.
They attained thereby the exalted station.
