كُنbe لِلمَكارِهِagainst hardships بِالعَزاءِwith fortitude مُقَطِّعاًone who cuts through
فَلَعَلَّfor perhaps يَوماًone day لاnot تَرىyou will see ماwhat تَكرَهُyou dislike
Cut through hardships with fortitude;
Sever the bonds of calamity with fortitude,
for perhaps one day you will see nothing you dislike.
For perhaps a day may come when you see nothing you abhor.
فَلَرُبَّماfor often اِستَتَرَconcealed himself الفَتىthe youth فَتنافَسَتand so vied
فيهِover him العُيونُthe eyes وَإِنَّهُthough he is لَمُمَوَّهُindeed a gilded sham
For often a youth conceals himself, stirring rivalry
How often a man is veiled, and eyes compete for him,
among eyes over him, though he is but a gilded sham.
While in truth he is merely a gilded counterfeit.
وَلَرُبَّماand often اِختَزَنَheld back الكَريمُthe noble man لِسانَهُhis tongue
حَذَرَfor fear of الجَوابِthe reply وَإِنَّهُthough he is لَمُفَوَّهُindeed eloquent
And often a noble man holds his tongue
And how often the noble man imprisons his tongue,
for fear of the reply, though he is eloquent indeed.
Wary of the consequence, though he is masterfully articulate.
وَلَرُبَّماand often اِبتَسَمَsmiled الوَقورُthe dignified man مِنَat الأَذىharm
وَفُؤادُهُwhile his heart مَنfrom حَرِّهِits burning heat يَتَأَوَّهُgroans
And often a dignified man smiles at harm,
And how often the dignified man smiles at the injury,
while his heart groans from its burning heat.
While his heart, from the searing heat, groans in agony.
