كُنتَ السَوادَ لِناظِري

كُنتَ السَوادَ لِناظِري

فَبَكى عَلَيكَ الناظِرُ

فَبَكى عَلَيكَ الناظِرُ

You were the pupil of my eye;

You were the pupil of my eye,

so my eye wept for you.

So the eye has wept for you.

مَن شاءَ بَعدَكَ فَليَمُت

مَن شاءَ بَعدَكَ فَليَمُت

فَعَلَيكَ كُنتُ أُحاذِرُ

فَعَلَيكَ كُنتُ أُحاذِرُ

Let whoever wishes die after you,

Whoever wishes to die after you, let him die,

for it was for you that I feared.

For it was you alone I feared to lose.
