ماhow أَكثَرَnumerous الناسَthe people لاno بَلrather ماhow أَقَلَّهُمُfew they are
ما أَكثَرَ الناسَ لا بَل ما أَقَلَّهُمُ
اللَهُGod يَعلَمُknows أَنّيthat I لَمdid not أَقُلsay فَنداfalsehood
اللَهُ يَعلَمُ أَنّي لَم أَقُل فَندا
How numerous people are—no, rather, how few they are!
How numerous are the people! No, rather how few they are;
God knows that I have spoken no falsehood.
God knows that I have not spoken a falsehood.
إِنّيindeed I لَأَفتَحُsurely open عَينيmy eye حينَwhen أَفتَحُهاI open it
إِنّي لَأَفتَحُ عَيني حينَ أَفتَحُها
عَلىupon كَثيرٍmany وَلَكِنand yet لاnot أَرىI see أَحَداanyone
عَلى كَثيرٍ وَلَكِن لا أَرى أَحَدا
Indeed, when I open my eye, I open it
For I open my eyes—whenever I open them—
Upon many, and yet I see no one.
Upon a multitude, yet I see not a single soul.
