وَمَنAnd whoever يَصحَبِkeeps company with الدُنياthis world يَكُنwill be مِثلَlike قابِضٍone grasping
وَمَن يَصحَبِ الدُنيا يَكُن مِثلَ قابِضٍ
عَلىat الماءِthe water خانَتهُbetrayed him فُروجُgaps الأَصابِعِthe fingers
عَلى الماءِ خانَتهُ فُروجُ الأَصابِعِ
And whoever keeps company with this world is like one grasping
Whoever befriends this world will be like one who grasps
And whoever befriends the world is like one grasping
at water, betrayed by the gaps between his fingers.
At water - the faster he grabs, the faster it slips through his fingers
