وَكانواand they were عَلىagainst الإِسلامِIslam إِلباًunited ثَلاثَةًthree
وَكانوا عَلى الإِسلامِ إِلباً ثَلاثَةً
فَقَدso indeed بَزَّwas despoiled مِنof تِلكَthose الثَلاثَةِthe three واحِدُone
فَقَد بَزَّ مِن تِلكَ الثَلاثَةِ واحِدُ
And they were three, united against Islam.
They were three pillars against Islam
They were three, rallied together against Islam,
Indeed, one of those three was despoiled.
One of the three has fled
But one of those three has been utterly vanquished.
وَفَرَّand fled أَبوfather of عَمروٍ‘Amr هُبَيرَةَHubayrah لَمdid not يَعُدreturn
وَفَرَّ أَبو عَمروٍ هُبَيرَةَ لَم يَعُد
لَناto us وَأَخوand a brother of الحَربِwar المُجَرِّبِseasoned عائِدُreturning
لَنا وَأَخو الحَربِ المُجَرِّبِ عائِدُ
And Abu ‘Amr, Hubayrah, fled and did not return
Abu Amr Hubairah did not return
And Abu 'Amr Hubayra fled, never to return
to us; yet a seasoned warrior returns.
But the experienced warrior's brother will return to us
To us—whereas the seasoned brother of war returns.
نَهَتهُمdeterred them سُيوفُswords الهِندِIndia أَنto يَقِفواstand لَناagainst us
نَهَتهُم سُيوفُ الهِندِ أَن يَقِفوا لَنا
غَداةَon the morning التَقَيناwe met وَالرِماحُand the spears المَصايِدُthe snares
غَداةَ التَقَينا وَالرِماحُ المَصايِدُ
The swords of India deterred them from standing against us
The Indian swords deterred them from standing against us
The swords of Hind forbade them from making a stand against us,
on the morning we met, with the spears as snares.
The next day when we met, and the lances were poised
On the morning we met, when spears were the snares.
