وَلَوand if أَنّيthat I بُليتُI was afflicted بِهاشِميٍّwith a Hashimite
وَلَو أَنّي بُليتُ بِهاشِميٍّ
خُؤولَتُهُhis maternal uncles بَنوsons of عَبدِʿAbd المَدانِal-Madān
خُؤولَتُهُ بَنو عَبدِ المَدانِ
And had I been afflicted with a Hashimite
Had I been afflicted by a Hashimite
Had I been plagued by a Hashimite,
whose maternal uncles were the sons of ʿAbd al-Madān,
Whose meanness was descended from Abd al-Madan
Whose maternal uncles are the Banu 'Abd al-Madan,
صَبَرتُI endured patiently عَلىin the face of عَداوَتِهِhis enmity وَلَكِنand yet
صَبَرتُ عَلى عَداوَتِهِ وَلَكِن
تَعالواcome, all of you فَاِنظُرواthen look, all of you بِمَنِwith whom اَبتَلانيhe afflicted me
تَعالوا فَاِنظُروا بِمَنِ اَبتَلاني
I would have patiently borne his enmity; but
I would have been patient with his enmity but
I would have patiently borne his enmity, but
come, then see whom I have been afflicted with.
Come and see who it is that afflicts me
Come and look at who has afflicted me!
