ما الدَهرُ إِلّا يَقظَةٌ وَنَومُ

Time is nothing but wakefulness and sleep,

Time is nothing but wakefulness and sleep,

And between the two, a night and a day.

And between them, a night and a day.

يَعيشُ قَومٌ وَيَموتُ قَومُ

يَعيشُ قَومٌ وَيَموتُ قَومُ

وَالدَهرُ قاضٍ ما عَلَيهِ لَومُ

وَالدَهرُ قاضٍ ما عَلَيهِ لَومُ

Some people live, and some people die,

One people lives, and another people dies,

And time is a judge upon whom no blame rests.

And Time is a judge upon whom falls no blame.
