كَيفيةُthe nature of المَرءِa person لَيسَnot المَرءُthe person يُدرِكُهاcomprehends it
كَيفيةُ المَرءِ لَيسَ المَرءُ يُدرِكُها
فَكَيفَso how كَيفيةَthe nature of الجَبارِthe Almighty فيin القِدَمِbeginningless eternity
فَكَيفَ كَيفيةَ الجَبارِ في القِدَمِ
A person cannot comprehend his own nature.
How does one know himself
The nature of man—man himself does not comprehend it,
How, then, could he comprehend the Almighty’s nature in His beginningless eternity?
When knowing the Almighty is beyond mortal ken
So how can he grasp the nature of the Almighty in eternity?
هُوَHe الَّذيwho أَنشأَbrought into being الأَشياءَthe things مُبتَدِعاًcreating without precedent
هُوَ الَّذي أَنشأَ الأَشياءَ مُبتَدِعاً
فَكَيفَso how يُدرِكهُcomprehends Him مُستَحدثُa newly created one النَسَمِthe souls
فَكَيفَ يُدرِكهُ مُستَحدثُ النَسَمِ
He is the One who brought things into being, creating them without precedent.
He who originated all things anew
He is the One who established all things, originating them,
How, then, can a newly created soul comprehend Him?
How can one newly made of clay comprehend
So how can one of newly created breath perceive Him?
