To You belongs praise, O possessor of generosity, glory, and sublimity.
Praise be to You, O Possessor of generosity, glory, and eminence; Blessed are You, giving to whom You please and withholding.
Blessed are You: You give to whom You will and withhold.
My God, my Creator, my Sanctuary, and my Refuge; to You I flee in times of hardship and of ease.
إِلَهيmy God وَخَلّاقيand my Creator وَحِرزيand my stronghold وَمَوئِليand my refuge

My God, my Creator, my stronghold, and my refuge,
My God, though my sins be great and accumulated, Your pardon for my transgression is greater and more vast.
to You I turn for refuge in hardship and ease.
My God, though I have granted my soul its desires, here I am, grazing in the pastures of regret.
إِلَهيmy God لَئِنeven if جُلتُI have wandered وَجَمَّتand has multiplied خَطيئَتيmy sin
فَعَفوُكَyet Your pardon عَنfor ذَنبيmy sin أَجَلُّgreater وَأَوسَعُand more ample
My God, even if I have wandered and my sin has multiplied,
My God, You see my state, my poverty, and my destitution, and You hear my hidden supplications.
yet Your pardon for my sin is greater and more ample.
My God, do not sever my hope nor let my heart go astray, for I covet the abundance of Your generosity.
إِلَهيmy God لَئِنeven if أَعطَيتَYou have granted نَفسيmy soul سُؤلُهاits wish
فَهاthen behold أَناI فيin أَرضِthe land of النَدامَةِremorse أَرتَعُI graze
My God, even if You have granted my soul its wish,
My God, if You disappoint me or cast me away, then in whom shall I hope, and who will intercede for me?
then here I am, grazing in the land of remorse.
My God, grant me refuge from Your punishment, for I am a captive, abased and fearful, submitting unto You.
إِلَهيmy God تَرىYou see حاليmy condition وَفَقريand my poverty وَفاقَتيand my need

My God, You see my condition, my poverty, and my need,
My God, comfort me by teaching me my plea, when the grave becomes my dwelling and my resting place.
and You hear my secret prayer.
My God, were You to punish me for a thousand years, the rope of my hope in You would never sever.
إِلَهيmy God فَلاso do not تَقطَعcut off رَجائيmy hope وَلاnor تُزِغlead astray

My God, do not cut off my hope, nor lead astray
My God, let me taste the sweetness of Your pardon on the Day when neither wealth nor children shall avail.
my heart, for in the outpouring of Your generosity lies my hope.
My God, if You do not watch over me, I am lost; but if You tend to me, I shall never go astray.
إِلَهيmy God لِئَنif indeed خَيَّبتَنيYou disappoint me أَوor طَرَدتَنيYou cast me out

My God, if You disappoint me or cast me out,
My God, if You pardon none but the virtuous, to whom shall the sinner, indulging in desire, turn?
then in whom can I hope, and who will intercede for me?
My God, though I have been negligent in seeking piety, here I am, pursuing and following the traces of Your pardon.
إِلَهيmy God أَجِرنيprotect me مِنfrom عَذابِكَYour punishment إِنَّنيindeed I am

My God, protect me from Your punishment; indeed, I am
My God, if I have erred through ignorance, I have hoped in You so long that they said, "See how he frets."
a captive, humbled and afraid; to You I submit.
My God, my sins have surpassed the highest peaks, yet Your forgiveness for my sin is grander and more lofty.
إِلَهيmy God فَآنِسنيso comfort me بِتَلقينِby prompting حُجَّتيmy defense

My God, comfort me by prompting my defense,
My God, the remembrance of Your bounty soothes my anguish, while the remembrance of my sins brings tears to my eyes.
when I have an abode and a resting place in the grave.
My God, bestow upon me Your solace and mercy, for I knock at no door save that of Your grace.
إِلَهيmy God لَئِنeven if عَذَّبتَنيYou torment me أَلفَa thousand حَجَّةٍyears

My God, even if You torment me for a thousand years,
My God, if You cast me out or turn me away, what recourse have I, O Lord, and what shall I do?
yet the cord of my hope in You will not be severed.
My God, the lover keeps vigil through the night, calling out and praying, while the heedless one sleeps.
إِلَهيmy God أَذِقنيlet me taste طَعمَthe taste of عَفوكَYour pardon يَومَon the day when لاneither

My God, let me taste Your pardon on the day when neither
Yet all hope for Your bounty, longing for Your supreme mercy and coveting eternal Paradise.
sons nor wealth will avail there.
My God, my hope promises me safety, yet the ugliness of my sins bears witness against me.

My God, if You do not watch over me, I will be lost;
My God, if You forgive, then Your forgiveness is my salvation; if not, I shall be destroyed by my ruinous sin.
and if You watch over me, I will not be lost.
My God, by the right of the Hashimite Prophet and his kin, and by the sanctity of Abraham, Your Friend, I implore You.

My God, if You do not pardon one who does no good,
My God, resurrect me upon the faith of Ahmad: pious, pure, obedient, and humble before You.
then who is there for a sinner who revels in desire?
Do not deprive me, O my God and Master, of his great intercession, for he is the accepted intercessor.

And bless him as long as a monotheist calls upon You, and the righteous whisper prayers while bowing at Your door.
then here I am, tracing and following the trail of pardon.
