وَإِذاand when طَلَبتَyou asked إِلىto كَريمٍa generous man حاجَةًa favor
وَإِذا طَلَبتَ إِلى كَريمٍ حاجَةً
فِلِقاؤُهُthen meeting him يَكفيكَsuffices for you وَالتَسليمُand greeting
فِلِقاؤُهُ يَكفيكَ وَالتَسليمُ
And when you ask a generous man for a favor,
When you seek a need from the generous
If you seek a favor from a noble man,
then meeting him and greeting him suffice for you.
Meeting him is enough for you, and the delivery
Meeting him and offering a greeting suffice you;
وَإِذاand when رَآكَhe sees you مُسلِّماًoffering a greeting ذَكَرَhe remembers الَّذيwhat
وَإِذا رَآكَ مُسلِّماً ذَكَرَ الَّذي
حمّلتَهُyou charged him with فَكَأَنَّهُthen as though it were مُبرومُsettled
حمّلتَهُ فَكَأَنَّهُ مُبرومُ
And when he sees you greeting him, he remembers what
And when he sees you delivered, he recalls what
For when he sees you saluting, he recalls the burden
you charged him with—as though it were settled.
You tasked him, as if dictated
You entrusted to him, as though it were a binding decree.
