وَلَيسَand are not كَثيراًmany أَلفُa thousand خِلٍّa close friend وَصاحِبٍand a companion
وَلَيسَ كَثيراً أَلفُ خِلٍّ وَصاحِبٍ
وَإِنَّbut indeed عَدّواan enemy واحِداًa single one لَكَثيرُindeed many
وَإِنَّ عَدّوا واحِداً لَكَثيرُ
A thousand close friends and companions are not many;
A thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many.
A thousand friends and companions are not many,
but a single enemy is indeed many.
But even one enemy is far too many.
