ياO طَلحُTalha إِنif كُنتَyou are كَماas تَقولُyou say
لَكُمyou have خُيولٌhorses وَلَناand we have نُصولُblades
O Talha, if you are as you say,
O Talha, if you are as you claim
O Talha, if you are truly as you claim,
You have horses, and we have blades.
You have horses and we have resolute men
You possess the horses, but we possess the blades,
فَاثبُتْthen stand firm لِنَنظُرْso we may see أَيُّناwhich of us المَقتولُthe one slain
وَأَيّناand which of us أَولىmore entitled بِماto what تَقولُyou say
Then stand firm, so we may see which of us is slain,
Stand firm so we may see who is slain
Stand firm, then, so we may see which of us is to be slain,
And which of us is more entitled to what you claim.
And who is more worthy of what you claim
And which of us is worthier of the words you spoke,
فَقَدfor indeed أَتاكَhas come to you الأَسَدُthe lion الصّؤولُthe charging one
بِصارِمٍwith a keen sword لَيسَthere are not لَهُin it فلولُnicks
For the charging lion has come to you,
The roaring lion has come to you
For the assailing lion has surely come upon you,
With a keen sword whose edge has no nicks.
With a sword that has no scabbard
Bearing a resolute sword that knows no notch or flaw,
يَنصُرُهُsupports him القَهّارُthe All-Subduing One وَالرَسولُand the Messenger
The All-Subduing One and the Messenger support him.
He is helped by the Almighty and the Messenger
Aided by the Almighty Subduer and the Messenger.
