كُدَّ كَدَّ العَبدِ إِن أَح

كُدَّ كَدَّ العَبدِ إِن أَح

بَيتَ أَن تُصبِحَ حُرّاً

بَيتَ أَن تُصبِحَ حُرّاً

Toil as a slave toils, if you

The effort of a slave avails not

Toil with the labor of a slave, if you

wish to become free;

Should he desire to be free and exalted

Aspire to become a free man,

وَاِقطَعِ الآمالَ مِن ما

وَاِقطَعِ الآمالَ مِن ما

لِ بَني آدَمَ طُرَّاً

لِ بَني آدَمَ طُرَّاً

and cut off hopes of

Cut off your hopes from what

And sever your hopes from the wealth

the wealth of all the children of Adam.

The sons of Adam possess, and wander

Of the sons of Adam, entirely.

لا تَقُل ذا مَكسَبٍ يَز

لا تَقُل ذا مَكسَبٍ يَز

ري فَقَصدُ الناسِ أَزرى

ري فَقَصدُ الناسِ أَزرى

Do not say, 'This livelihood

Say not this is a gain that enriches

Do not say, "This trade is demeaning,"

is degrading'; for seeking from people is more degrading.

For the aim of mankind is most noble

For the asking of people is more demeaning.

أَنتَ ما اِستَغنَيتَ عَن غَي

أَنتَ ما اِستَغنَيتَ عَن غَي

رِكَ أَعلى الناسِ قَدرا

رِكَ أَعلى الناسِ قَدرا

You, so long as you have no need of

You have never been independent of others

You, as long as you have no need of others,

others, are highest among people in worth.

The most honored of men in God's sight

Are the highest of people in rank.
