أَناI الصَقرُthe falcon الَّذيwho حُدِّثتَyou were told عَنهُabout him
عِتاقُthe finest of الطَيرِthe birds تَنجَدِلfall to the ground اِنجِدالاheadlong
I am the falcon you were told about.
I am the falcon you have heard of
I am the falcon of whom you have been told,
The finest birds fall headlong to the ground.
The bravest of birds swooping down
Before whom the noblest birds fall crashing down.
وَقاسَيتُand I endured الحُروبَwars أَناI اِبنُson of (here, aged) سَبعٍseven (years)
فَلَّماthen when شِبتُI grew gray أَفنَيتُI annihilated الرِجالاthe men
And I endured wars when I was seven years old.
I have endured wars, I am the son of lions
I endured the ravages of war when I was but a child of seven,
Then, when I grew gray, I annihilated men.
When I grew up I destroyed men
And as I turned gray, I annihilated men.
فَلمso did not تَدَعِleave السُيوفُthe swords لَناfor us عَدواًan enemy
وَلَمand did not يَدَعِleave السَخاءُgenerosity لَدَيَّwith me مالاwealth
So the swords left us no enemy.
No swords left an enemy for us
Thus, the swords have left no enemy standing against us,
And generosity left me no wealth.
No generosity left any money for me
Nor has my generosity left any wealth in my possession.
