ماnot غاضَran dry دَمعيmy tears عِندَat نازِلَةٍa calamity
إِلّاexcept that جَعَلتَكَI made you لِلبُكاfor weeping سَبَباa reason
My tears never ran dry at a calamity
My tears did not flow at any misfortune,
My tears have never receded at the onset of calamity,
Without my making you a reason to weep.
Except I made you their cause and reason.
Without my making you the cause of the weeping.
وِإِذاand when ذَكَرتُكَI remembered you مَيِّتاًdead سَفَحَتshed
عَينيmy eye الدُموعُthe tears فَفاضَso it overflowed وَاِنسَكَباand it poured forth
And when I remembered you dead, there flowed
And if I remember you dead, my eyes
And when I remember you are dead, my eyes
From my eye tears that overflowed and poured forth.
Shed their tears and overflow and pour down.
Shed tears that overflow and pour forth.
إِنّيindeed I أَجِلُّI revere ثَرىًsoil حَلَلتَyou settled بِهِin it
عَنabove أَنthat أُرىI be seen لِسِواهُfor anything other than it مُكتَئِباgrief-stricken
Indeed, I so revere the soil in which you rest
Indeed, I hold dear a soil you walked on,
For I honor the soil in which you have settled
That I would not be seen grieving for anything else.
More than seeing any other place woeful.
Too deeply to be seen grieving for anyone else.
