إِنَّماnothing but الدُنياthe world فَناءٌtransience
لَيسَthere is no لِلدُّنياfor the world ثُبوتُpermanence
The world is nothing but transience;
This fleeting world is but illusion
Truly, this world is perishing,
The world has no permanence.
For this world there's no permanence
There is no stability for this earthly life.
إِنَّماonly الدُنياthe world كَبَيتٍlike a house
نَسَجَتهُwove it العَنكَبوتُthe spider
The world is only like a house
This world is but a spider's web
The world is merely like a dwelling
That a spider has woven.
Spun with silken eloquence
That the spider has woven.
وَلَقَدand indeed يَكفيكَsuffices you مِنهاfrom it
أَيُّهاO الطالِبُthe seeker قوتُsustenance
And indeed, all you require from it,
Of this world let sustenance suffice
And indeed, all that suffices you from it,
O seeker, is sustenance.
Seeker of wisdom, excellence
O seeker, is simple sustenance.
وَلَعَمريand by my life عَنafter قَليلٍa short time
كُلُّall مَنwhoever فيهاin it يَموتُdies
And by my life, before long,
For soon all in this world shall die
And by my life, before long,
Everyone in it will die.
Such is the nature of life's effervescence
Everyone within it shall die.
