يقولونthey say ليto me فيin اسمthe name الغرابal-Ghurab (the Crow) تطيّرٌtaking something as an ill omen
يقولون لي في اسم الغراب تطيّرٌ
ولوand if أنصفواthey were fair فيin القولwhat is said بالعكسto the opposite غيّرواthey would have changed it
ولو أنصفوا في القول بالعكس غيّروا
They tell me, “The name al-Ghurab—the Crow—is taken as an ill omen.”
They tell me that the crow brings bad luck
And had they been fair in their words, they would have said the reverse:
If they were fair, they would change their words
ولمand did not يتطيّرtake an ill omen فيamong الورىhumankind أحدٌanyone بهfrom him
ولم يتطيّر في الورى أحدٌ به
ولكنّهُbut he منfrom غيرهothers besides him يتطيّرُtakes ill omens
ولكنّهُ من غيره يتطيّرُ
No one among humankind has taken an ill omen from him;
No one was cursed by it
But he takes ill omens from others.
But it is cursed by others
