وألفت أحزاني وبان سُرُوري
Tears from the eyes flowed like the flood of seas.
My tears are like floods of seas
And I grew accustomed to my sorrows, and my joy departed.
And my sorrows are intimate, while my happiness appears
ياO ليتwould that شعريmy knowing هلwhether أفوزI attain بقربهcloseness to him

إنّي لمولوعٌ بظفر شٌعوري
If only I knew: will I attain closeness to him?
Oh how I wish I knew if I will succeed in getting near him
Indeed, I am enamored of my feelings' triumph.
I am inflamed with obtaining what I feel

And whenever gray doves sang in the thicket,
And whenever doves flock to the nests
