ألا كلُّ علم إن أردت عزيزهُ

يعودُ ذليلاً طول فهمك لا يُكدي

يعودُ ذليلاً طول فهمك لا يُكدي

Take heed: every science, if you seek its elusive part,

Behold, all knowledge, if you wish, my dear,

Becomes tractable; your sustained understanding never fails.

Becomes humble before your deep understanding.

تنال أصُول النّحو بالعزم والجدّ

تنال أصُول النّحو بالعزم والجدّ

Devote yourself to the secrets of eloquence, after you

Master then rhetoric's secrets, when

Master the foundations of grammar with resolve and diligence;

You've grasped grammar's rules with zeal and diligence.

فترقى سماء المجد عزّا ورفعة

فترقى سماء المجد عزّا ورفعة

وتبلغ في علياك منزلة السّعد

وتبلغ في علياك منزلة السّعد

Then you ascend the sky of glory in honor and eminence,

So you may ascend glory's sky with honor,

And attain, in your exalted state, the station of good fortune.

And in your loftiness, attain good fortune's abode.
