تأسّtake comfort إذاwhen أبصرتyou see صاحبُa possessor of ثروةwealth
تأسّ إذا أبصرت صاحبُ ثروة
وإنeven if كنتyou are ذاpossessing قلّlittle means تبتyou spend the night طاويempty الحشاthe belly
وإن كنت ذا قلّ تبت طاوي الحشا
Take comfort when you see a man of wealth,
When you see a wealthy man, aspire to be like him,
even if you are poor and spend the night with an empty belly.
Even if you have little, repent and mend your ways.
ولاand do not تكُbe حسّاداًenvious لصاحبof a possessor of نعمةa blessing
ولا تكُ حسّاداً لصاحب نعمة
فلذلكand therefore فضلُthe bounty of اللهGod يؤتيهHe grants it منwhomever يشاHe wills
فلذلك فضلُ الله يؤتيه من يشا
And do not be envious of one who enjoys a blessing;
Do not be envious of the fortunate one,
thus, it is God's bounty, which He grants to whomever He wills.
For it is thus that God grants favor to whom He wills.
