سلّ المهنّد من كحيل رائع
O you who, when I sin by gazing at you,
O you whose glance, when I've sinned, is my judge
Unsheathe the Indian-steel sword from a dazzling, kohl-dark eye:
Soften your eyes with kohl of clemency
لكfor you شافعٌan intercessor فيin الوجهthe face ظلّremained مُعاقبيmy punisher
لك شافعٌ في الوجه ظلّ مُعاقبي
اللهُGod أكبرُgreater منthan عقابpunishment الشّافعthe intercessor
اللهُ أكبرُ من عقاب الشّافع
You have an intercessor in your face who remains my punisher;
In your face is my intercessor against punishment
God is greater than the intercessor’s punishment!
God is greater than the intercessor's plea
