ناديتهُI called to him والدّمعُand the tears حينwhen تجرّحتwere wounded
وجناتيmy cheeks منfrom مدمعيmy tear-flow مدرارُpouring abundantly
I called to him, while tears—as wounds opened
I called to him as tears streamed when I was wounded,
on my cheeks from my weeping—poured in torrents.
And my cheeks overflowed with bitter tears.
ياO منyou who بسوقin the market العطرof perfume أصبحbecame تاجراa merchant
عنinstead of ذاكthat يُغنيsuffices عطفكyour flank المعطارُfragrant
O you who became a merchant in the perfume market,
O you who in the perfume market became a merchant,
your fragrant flank makes that unnecessary.
Your kindness makes up for that, O gentle one.
قصّرتyou shortened منfrom جفنيّmy two eyelids عُمرthe lifespan of مدامعيmy tears
وشبابيand my youth المسودّblack-haired ياقصّارُO cloth-bleacher
You cut short the life of the tears from my eyelids,
My tearful eyes shortened my lifetime,
and of my black-haired youth, O fuller!
And my gloomy youth, O shortener.
