    I am mad with love whenever he passes me on his way,

    and pierces my vitals with an arrow of his graceful form.

    لهُ سالفٌ يهدي الهوى لعشيقه

    He reminds me of what I had once tried to forget;

    he has a cheek that bestows love on his lover.

    I say to him, “Why do you not pass by with a greeting?”

    Then bashfulness clothes his cheeks in its robe of red anemones,

    so the anguish of longing I endure grows fiercer,

    and hurls my heart into the blaze of its fire.
