فهي للإبتداء منهُ نواسخ
His two eyes effaced my reason at the outset;
My mind copied his words at the start
thus they are, from him, abrogators of the beginning.
So it is for beginning, copies from him
سلخstripped away الصّبرpatience عنfrom فُؤاديmy heart منهُfrom him
سلخ الصّبر عن فُؤادي منهُ
أسودُblack الفرعthe hair فهوso he أسودa black serpent سالخshedding its skin
أسودُ الفرع فهو أسود سالخ
Patience was stripped from my heart by him—
Patience peeled off from my heart by him
the black-haired one: he is a black serpent shedding its skin.
The branch is black so it's a black skinner
