God be praised for a gazelle who stole my mind with two lām-shaped locks

From his cheeks—and they both dragged me to my doom.

If people's love for the beauty of his countenance

Is a lie, then my love for him is truly without falsehood.

O you whose countenance, whenever it appears to people,

Blinds the eye's pupil with its overwhelming radiance,

Why have you come to be called ‘Umar among them,

When you are a full moon, aiming for the two Simāk stars?

I think they robbed you of the qāf in qamar (‘moon’),

And replaced it with an ‘ayn, unseen by the eye.
